Education Database
Best for: Peer-reviewed journal articles, dissertations, & trade publications (ex. School Library Journal)
Research tracking tools: ProQuest allows you to create a free "My Research" account to save sources, save searches, & set alerts for new publications related to your interests.
Search tips: Start with a simple keyword search and use the filters on the left side of the results page to refine your results. The "subject" filter helpfully allows you to select topics to include and to exclude. When you click a source, ProQuest will suggest related sources.

ERIC (Education Resources Information Center)
Best for: Peer-reviewed journal articles, dissertations, & thesaurus tool
Research tracking tools: On the upper right of the search results page, click "Save" to email yourself a link to your current search.
Search tips: Start with a simple keyword search and use the filters on the left side of the results page to narrow your results. ERIC has an excellent controlled vocabulary, and the "descriptors" filter (equivalent to the "subject" filter in other databases) is especially helpful.

Best for: Peer-reviewed journal articles, trade publications, & magazines
Research tracking tools: Next to each search result you will see a blue folder icon. Click to save one or multiple sources to an EBSCO folder. Create a free My EBSCO account to save this folder for future use and to save notes on individual sources. Links to view your search history or create search alerts are located next to the main search bar.
Search tips: All three of these different databases are hosted on EBSCO and use the same search features. EBSCO has a few unique filters, including one for Lexile Levels.

Educator's Reference Complete
Best for: Magazines, news articles, & Topic Finder tool
Research tracking tools: Gale allows you to save individual sources by sending them to your email, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive. You can also highlight and write notes that will be saved with your source. You can't save your searches, but you can view recent searches under "search history".
Search tips: Gale databases have a unique tool called "Topic Finder" that generates a visual representation of your search. It operates the same way as filtering a search by subject, but the interactive visual might help you to see relationships between subjects more clearly than a list of words.
