Definition of "Gender Equality"

"The fifth goal addresses discrimination and violence against women and girls. Its targets identify:

  • child marriage & forced marriage,
  • female genital mutilation (FGM),
  • limited access to reproductive health care, and
  • systems dependent on unpaid female labor as threats unique to girls and women. 
  • SDG5 also aspires to cultivate women's economic independence and increase their participation in politics and public life." 
  • eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls including trafficking, sexual and other types of exploitation.
