Chicago Style (Author/Date)

Newspaper articles

Last Name, First Name. Year. "Article Title." Newspaper Name, Month Day, Year. URL.

Example with an author:

Fox, Margalit. 2020. "Katherine Johnson Dies at 101: Mathematician Broke Barriers at NASA." The New York Times, February 24, 2020. https://nyti.ms/2SRGVCK.

  • In-text paraphrase: (Fox 2020).
  • In-text quote: (Fox 2020, para. 3).

Example without an author:

New York Times. 2002. "In Texas, Ad Heats Up Race for Governor." July 30, 2002. https://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/30/us/in-texas-ad-heats-up-race-for-governor.html.

  • In-text paraphrase: (New York Times 2002).
  • In-text quote: (New York Times 2002, para. 3).

 

Note. In Chicago it is sufficient to cite newspaper and magazine articles entirely in the text. See sections 14.198 and 15.49 in the manual for the format for that.
