Lynn University Library Assistants' Guide

Everything you need to know to be a successful library assistant!

What are Interlibrary Loans?

  • Interlibrary loans are materials borrowed from other Colleges and Institutions' libraries. Those institutions determine the due date.
  • Once they are processed, you will find them behind the desk on top of the Course Reserves shelves.
  • Only current Lynn students, faculty and staff can request materials via ILL.
  • Alumni cannot use our ILL services. Please refer them to their local public library.
  • Patrons can request books or articles. We cannot ILL audiovisual materials.

Patrons can request ILLs online in the catalog:

  • Find the item in the catalog

  • Click on Check Availability

  • Click on Request Item From Another Library
  • Fill out all areas of the form
  • NOTE: You must be logged in as a student, faculty, or staff to use ILL

  • Once the form is submitted, the ILL Librarian will attempt to borrow the item. All communication is handled via email.
  • If the patron doesn't want to do this themselves, you may do it for them.
  • The form has been updated to include "Status." There is no option for alumni because they cannot ILL materials.

FAQ: How do I get stuff from other libraries (ILL)?

If the Lynn Library doesn't have what you need, we can get it for you from another library. Most requests are filled within two weeks, the average being 5 to 10 days for a book, whereas a scanned article can be next day. However, completion time can vary greatly based on the availability of the material.

  • From the library catalog, click on the title of the item you want, Next, click on

  • Fill in the information highlighted in pink at the bottom of the page.
  • If that link doesn't appear, send an email to Jared Wellman
  • Emailing Jared should work; if not, click here to request a book or here to request an article.
