Definition of "Life Below Water"

"The fourteenth goal concerns the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas, and the protection of marine life. SDG14 recognizes the environmental impacts of:

  • plastic pollution,
  • ocean warming,
  • eutrophication (dense plant growth leading to a lack of oxygen that kills marine life),
  • acidification (process in which carbon dioxide causes ocean to become more acidic, threating marine life), and
  • overfishing" and illegal, unreported and destructive fishing practices.
