Library Database Citation Generators

Did you know? Most of the Lynn Library's databases have built-in citation generators. The tabs above will show you:

  • Which database companies provide automatically generated citations, and where to find them
  • Common errors to look out for in a generated citation (capitalization, misplaced elements, incorrect formatting)

Databases that do NOT provide automatically generated citations:

  • Sustainable Development Goals Online
  • Demographics Now
  • ERIC (Education Resources Information Center)
  • Films on Demand (no APA format generator)
  • Flipster (magazines)
  • Medici TV Classical Music
  • Naxos Music Library
  • Many business databases

Databases are continually updating and improving their tools, so this list will be subject to change.

Statista page showing no cite tool

Look out for errors!

There is no Statista-generated citation. Use this format for Statista reports:

Author. (Date). Title in sentence case and italics. Source. URL.

Correct Statista citation:

Statista. (2023). Alcohol and health: Statistics report on alcohol use and healthhttps://www.statista.com/study/24814/alcohol-and-health-statista-dossier/

Tips:

  • Gather information for the correct citation from the online page about the report and from the report (download it).
  • If the Source and Author are Statista, only list Statista as the author.

Online Citation Generators

We strongly advise against using free online citation generators. When accuracy matters, they waste more of your time than they save.

NOT Recommended:

  • Citation Machine

Why? The more information you add to the correct fields, the better result any citation generator will produce. The above tools perform especially poorly when only given a URL and a page title (with incorrect author and date being two of the most persistent errors).
